Unfortunately, the Viking/Folk scene here in Belgium is rather small. In my opinion there's too much emo-stuff going on in my country and traditional music is pretty un-cool in this new generation of Metal fans. A real Music lover keeps on searching for more and more while others don't even know more than 10 bands. But anyway, Black Metal, Thrash and Grindcore seem very popular these days in my country, but I'm sure that within 2 years there will be another Music revolution and probably Viking/Folk Metal will grow even bigger. There's not that many bands here playing Folk Metal or other related genres but I like: Iron Clad, Lion's Pride, Theudho, Ancient Rites and Weihan.

The Icelandic viking metal scene is pretty small. Only bands I know of are Sólstafir, Fortíð and my Band Yggdrasil

i think no one from France posted...here the scene is divided, you got viking, others and celtic influence. celtic is what flourishes best here.
Heol Telwen (the dark sun) folklore of brittanny west of France Aes Dana (men of arts) same Bran Barr (black raven) same with irish influences Valuatir - folklore of the west center of france Hantaoma - folklore of the south west of France, Occitanie. Hanternoz - well, my band, folklore of the Britanny, influence of fishermen, seamen's chants and songs.
i think i'm done. these are the most talked about folk metal bands. but i wasn't getting into pagan.

I'm personally quite happy that Lemuria (www.myspace.com/lemuriascrypt) are back on tour and making a new album. I guess the new album won't be as folk/pagan-y as the first one, though.. They're still making black-ish metal but taking it in a more symphonic direction.. But still; their first album "Tales, Ale & Fire" is a must-hear!
There's quite some smaller bands around here that are playing viking/folk metal.. My favourites being Vinternatt (www.myspace.com/vinternatt) and Krigavar (www.myspace.com/officialkrigavar).

From searching in the deep roots of the Canadian underground I have found many folk and pagan influenced black metal bands that I love. Dark Forest, Fornskog, Forteresse, Ur Falc'h, Sig:Ar:Tyr, Wolven Ancestry, Woods of Ypres, and Valknacht are among these bands, and I also recommend giving my band, Moradin, a listen for fans of this genre.
